the thing and the shrink
a drive is a boundless loop
it closes cyclically on itself
it does not enclose anything
it does enclose nothing
it is a symptom of a hole
topology provides obstructions to decay, dissemination and dispersion
holes, knots, links, torsions
physics provides a bestiary of topological phenomena that prevent decay into the vacuum state
